There’s still time to apply for scholarships for fall

By Rebecca Rakoczy

Scholarships are available—if you know when and how to apply. For Tiffany Trivett, a GPC English major, the Atlanta Writers Club Scholarship offered the opportunity for a $1,000 scholarship; she applied and was awarded the money; she’ll be able to use it toward books and tuition this fall.

While Trivett received her scholarship this past spring, students can still take advantage of many scholarship opportunities for the fall 2014 semester. The deadline for scholarship applications for fall 2014 is July 1, according to Dr. Kara Gardner, GPC assistant director of scholarships and stewardship.

Scholarship awards range from $500 to $2,000. Current students must be enrolled in summer and new incoming students must be registered for fall classes to be eligible for these scholarships.

Scholarships for incoming freshman include the Janet Barron Book Scholarship, the Matthew Dittmann Eagle Scout Scholarship, the GPC Foundation Scholarship, the Thomas A. Smith Memorial Scholarship and the Jack and Kathleen Thornton Scholarship.

Other scholarships available include:

--The GPC Military Outreach Scholarship for full or part-time GPC students who are veterans or dependents of veterans; students must be registered for summer classes to apply for the fall scholarship. This is a $500 scholarship for books and educational expenses.

--T2W2 Scholarship for current GPC students who are taking at least 6 credit hours in the summer; applicants must be at least 20 years old and have a 2.5 GPA; they should submit a letter of recommendation from a GPC staff or faculty member

For nursing and allied health students, there are several scholarships available including:

--The Dunwoody Rotary Club Scholarship in Allied Health

--The Karla Lynn Moody Scholarship in Nursing

--Nursing scholarship for single parents (must have completed their first year in the GPC Nursing program before applying for this scholarship).

Future scholarship deadlines include Oct. 1 for the spring semester and March 1 for next summer and fall semesters. For information go to http://depts.gpc.edu/Foundation/scholarships.htm.
