Daniela Montaner participated in a Georgia State University student panel Oct. 21, serving as a Georgia Perimeter College representative. Montaner discussed and described the college experience in response to questions posed by Latino high school students and parents. While at Georgia State, she also gained more information about the university, to which she plans to transfer after graduating from GPC. “This experience taught me the importance of communicating to Latino and other marginalized youth that college not only is possible but extremely rewarding.”  

Ilia De Jesus, a 2014 GPC theatre graduate, was featured in the Living section of the Atlanta Journal Constitution Sept. 18. She is performing in a comedy, “Divorciada, Evagelicas Y Vegetarianas,” for the Aurora Theater’s Spanish outreach and play program, Teatro Aurora. The play runs through Oct. 18 at the Lawrenceville theater.

 

Student leaders from all five Georgia Perimeter College campuses took part in a college-wide meeting Sept. 18. Attendees included members of the Student Government Association, Jaguar Activity Group, College Court and Homecoming Royal Court. The agenda included meeting with the GPC Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services Dr. Vincent June, voting on student fees and sharing college-wide events and initiatives with one another. 

 

Georgia Perimeter student Ugochukwu Ossai is one of 160 community college students from across the United States selected to be part of NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars project. The five-week scholars program culminates in a four-day on-site event at Marshall Space Flight Center in October and offers students the opportunity to interact with NASA engineers and others as they learn more about careers in science and engineering.

 

GPC alumnus and Major League Baseball outfielder Marlon Byrd was traded to the San Francisco Giants recently to “to boost their injury-plagued outfield for the stretch run,” according to ESPN. As of Sept. 15, the Giants were in second place, chasing the Los Angeles Dodgers for the lead spot in the National League West.

 

Ninety percent of customer service surveys collected this past summer at Georgia Perimeter indicate that students had an “excellent” experience with staff. One student’s comments on the help he/she received from a staff member: “She had helped me through a very challenging time. She listened to me and gave me the best advice on how to handle my issues. Because of her help, my transition into a new phase of my life feels easier, and I can handle the challenges better. Thank you for all your help.”

 

Georgia Perimeter College has announced its summer term Dean’s List. At the end of each semester, students who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or better while carrying an academic load of nine semester credit hours or more of courses numbered 1000 or higher are named on the Dean’s List. Certificates are no longer issued.
