Student/Alumni Kudos for Sept. 2014

Georgia Perimeter College alumnus Michael McPherson, a governmental relations associate with the Georgia Municipal Association, was quoted extensively in a Sept. 14 Atlanta Journal-Constitution article, “Tax Reforms pinching rural Georgia.” McPherson had analyzed the impact on Georgia’s 159 counties of a tax reform bill passed by the state legislature two years ago. “He learned that just a one-percent tax loss would cause major hardship on revenue-poor counties,” said the article. “It’s very clear that where you have a diverse economy, sales taxes are a little bit down. But where you have a heavy agricultural economy, it’s a recurring hit and a big-time decline,” he said.

Newton SGA President Sri Rajasekaran, president of Georgia Perimeter’s Newton Campus Student Government Association, attended the Board of Regents-sponsored New Learning Models 2030 Task Force launch meeting in Atlanta Aug. 28. She serves as one of two students statewide on the committee. She had an opportunity to meet Dr. Houston Davis, executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer of the University System of Georgia.
