So long, Genmails. Hello, Digest!
Employee email inboxes throughout Georgia Perimeter College are expected to bear a lighter load beginning Tuesday with the debut of the GPC Daily Digest.
The digest, launched by GPC’s Office of Information Technology, with help from the Office of Marketing and Communications, will consolidate college-wide messages to faculty and staff into a single daily email, eliminating the need for multiple mass emails from various departments each day. The digest will arrive in inboxes at 10 a.m. daily, displaying a variety of notices that are categorized by topic.
The new approach is envisioned as a more efficient and effective way of keeping employees informed.
“The Daily Digest is a new email publication that will help us all better manage our email, and it will provide a go-to source for college information,” said Mark Hoeting, GPC’s chief information officer and assistant vice president for information technology. “By receiving one, thoughtfully-organized email per day, we will all be better able to review and act on the information that is most relevant to us.”
The content in the digest will be organized by subject--such as Academic Affairs, Financial Affairs and GPC Newsroom. Under each category will be listed brief summaries of departmental announcements and messages, plus a “Read More” link for readers who want to access the full content.
“One of the most common challenges with email is simply the volume that we all receive--too much information at random times,” Hoeting said. “We hear this complaint from faculty and staff daily. Important messages about our college are simply lost in email due to the volume of information we are receiving and our limited time and energy to devote to processing it.”
Instead of sending out individual “genmails,” GPC offices and departments will contribute content to the digest. Training for submitting digest entries was provided last week.
In an announcement of the new digest on Friday, OIT said it welcomes feedback and invites employees to submit questions through the GPC Service Desk.
