GPC Student Health Center expanding to Dunwoody Campus

Just in time for flu season: Georgia Perimeter College’s Student Health Care services are expanding.

Currently located on Clarkston Campus in the H building, the Student Health Center is scheduled to open an additional facility in October in a renovated trailer on Dunwoody Campus. The Dunwoody clinic will have four exam rooms and will be staffed by a nurse practitioner, nurse and medical assistant.

When the Dunwoody health center opens, the Clarkston facility will close temporarily for renovations including two additional exam rooms, says Andrease Brooms, health center office manager.

Current mobile health clinic hours will continue on all campuses. All programs are overseen by a physician and are paid for by student fees.

The Student Health Center offers numerous services, ranging from flu shots to free STD and HIV screenings to program-related physicals, women’s health, and smoking cessation aids. Office visits are free; there are some fees attached to specific services.

The clinic and mobile health care van, which travels to all campuses, will offer flu shots beginning in October.

The expansion comes as the health center is experiencing a significant surge in usage: From Jan. 1 to Sept. 1, 2014, the health center logged some 2,442 visits, up from 1,898 visits during the same time period in 2013.

In addition to the expansion, the Student Health Center has recently started its own mobile app for smart phones and has introduced a secure patient portal to view appointments, print out immunizations records and track health care.
