Dr. Vincent June, vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services at Georgia Perimeter College, has been selected for the American Council on Education Fellow program. June is one of 31 emerging college and university leaders for the 2014-15 class of the ACE Fellows Program.

Established in 1965, the ACE Fellows Program—the longest running leadership development program in the United States—focuses on identifying and preparing the next generation of senior leadership for the nation’s colleges and universities.

ACE Fellows are assigned to a higher education institution for an academic year. June will find out his assignment in late May. He was nominated for the ACE program by Rob Watts, GPC’s interim president.

“I’m hoping to take advantage of the learning opportunities related to academic leadership, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with another president in another institution to engage myself in an experience that’s different from GPC,” June says. “I’m also looking forward to using this time for my own personal growth and development. I think it’s going to be a transformative type of experience.

In addition to placement at another institution, the ACE Fellows Program combines retreats, interactive learning opportunities, visits to campuses and other higher education-related organizations to condense years of on-the-job experience and skills development into a single year.

During the placement, Fellows observe and work with the president and other senior officers at their host institution, attend decision-making meetings and focus on issues of concern. Fellows conduct projects of pressing concern for their home institution and seek to implement their findings upon completion of the fellowship year.

Past projects have included developing an internationalization process, designing a post-tenure review policy, strategizing to create a teaching-learning center and crafting an initiative to support the academic success of first-generation college students.

June joined GPC in 2008 as vice president of student affairs and enrollment services, coming from the same position at Florida A & M University. He received his doctorate from Washington State University in educational leadership-student affairs in 1996.
