Joshua Corin embraced the challenge in 2009 to resurrect the defunct theatre arts program at Georgia Perimeter College’s Dunwoody Campus, bringing with him a passion for student achievement and an enviable resume.

Corin, an English and theater instructor, also is an award-winning novelist and screenwriter whose career includes a stint on Broadway, where he worked in management.

This week he’ll direct a 15-member cast in the “Rocky Horror Show,” the 1970s cult musical that still claims legions of fans worldwide. It’s Corin’s seventh production since re-birthing dramatic arts at Dunwoody five years ago.

“It takes a lot of everything,” Corin says of staging a major production like “Rocky Horror.” “A lot time, a lot of patience, goodwill and luck—and a lot of support.”

Dunwoody student Jordan Prince plays the lead role of Frank N. Furter, a transvestite scientist who creates a muscle man named Rocky Horror.

“‘Rocky Horror’ is so unique,” Prince says. “It’s a cult classic, and it’s polarizing. You get people who just love it or you get people who just don’t get it.”

Faculty, staff and students and the community will get the chance to see the musical as presented by GPC and the Dunwoody Playcrafters, a theatre group made up entirely of students, on Nov. 6-9 at 8 p.m. nightly. Rob Watts, interim GPC president, will play the role of narrator.

Corin is thrilled Watts could break from his busy schedule to participate.

“Because it was a student project, he was willing to make the time,” Corin says.

“Rocky Horror” tickets are $10. Individuals with a GPC ID receive one free ticket, while attendees showing up in costume will get a free gift bag. Seat reservations can be made by contacting Corin at Joshua.corin@gpc.edu.

GPC Dunwoody is located at 2101 Womack Road in Dunwoody.
