Campuses enhance admissions services

Students interested in attending Georgia Perimeter College will soon find improved admissions offices and enhanced services on the college’s campuses.

“Our goal is to provide the kind of admissions experience that is easier to navigate and translates into higher enrollment,” says Danny Bellinger, GPC’s interim director of admissions and recruitment.

The college’s Newton Campus, for example, is expanding and moving its admissions office to larger quarters in Building N-2, while also adding new services, more recruiters and campus tours led by students.

Newton, Clarkston and Dunwoody are moving to renovated office space now devoted to admissions services, while the Decatur and Alpharetta campuses are updating their current space, Bellinger says. The new admissions offices will be a “tad more high-techy,” he says, to cater to the needs of today’s connected students and to better guide students through the admissions process.

The new admissions offices on all campuses will have a number of improvements including providing scheduled campus tours conducted by STAR student leaders. These campus leaders work with advisement and registration to provide assistance to new Georgia Perimeter College students and prospects.

The office also will have Ipads available to help students upload documents and guide them through the application portals.

Each campus will be staffed by two recruiters, who will keep regular on-campus office hours to answer questions and help students and parents navigate the admissions process. The office also will be staffed by specialists to help process applications. In addition, there will be more information sessions for prospective students and their parents.

“We want to build up our STAR leader program and create excitement on the campus,” says Bellinger. “We will have a regular admissions recruiter presence on each campus so students and parents can have conversations about what we have to offer. We’re hosting more information sessions, and we’re rebuilding our campus tour programs with STAR Leaders.”

The changes are a return to services offered prior to GPC’s reduction in force in 2012 and were planned prior to news of GPC’s consolidation with Georgia State University, he says.
