GPC Newsroom editor Carol Pennington Lynn, Marketing and Communications, is retiring after 28 years of editing publications at Georgia Perimeter College. While the online newsroom has been her latest venture, she first came to then-DeKalb College in 1987 shortly after the college became a part of the University System of Georgia. Her charge then was to create a collegewide newsletter. The result was the DC Dispatch, followed later by the Orb, the Lynx and the In the Loop newsletters. Lynn also fulfilled editing and writing roles for The Chronicle magazine.  

Dr. Tiffany Flowers, Education, Online, contributed to a co-authored chapter on diversity in education for the book, “Positive Organizing in a Global Society: Understanding and Engaging Differences for Capacity Building and Inclusion.”

Georgia Perimeter College professors Caroline Anderson and Tim Brotherton visited Germany recently as part of a Rotary-sponsored education exchange. The pair joined colleagues from Georgia Gwinnett College and Gwinnett County Public Schools for a two-week trip to the European country, where they swapped ideas with German educators about educating immigrant students and integrating them into their respective academic environments. Brotherton and Anderson, both English as Second Language instructors, say they look forward to incorporating some of the lessons learned from Germany into their Georgia Perimeter classrooms.

New Faculty Emeriti were named at Georgia Perimeter College's Fall Convocation. They include Susan Lofstrom, English; Dr. Jessica Craig, Math; Dr. Rosemary Cox, English; Marilyn Ostrozko, English; Dr. Michael Denniston, Science; Larry Powell, Math; Dr. Pamela Roseman, History; Ellen Sweatt, Business; and Marva Cooper-Westfield, Reading.

Dr. Stuart Noel, English, participated in the 14th Annual Tennessee Williams Tribute in Columbus, Miss., Sept. 6-13. He was a featured panelist for the program, “Couldn’t Have Done It Without You, Baby: A Look at the Women in Williams’ Life and Career.” Noel, a Williams scholar, also presented his paper, “The Art and Decay of Blanche Dubois in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire,’” followed by a screening and discussion of the 1951 film starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh.

Fran Mohr, Customer Service, has been elected vice president of membership for the Gwinnett-Tucker Toastmasters Club #833.

Brandon Brown, Recruitment, attended Congressman John Lewis’ “For the People” Job Fair at Georgia International Convention Center Sept. 1 on behalf of GPC Recruitment. During the event, he was greeted by Lewis and invited to have lunch with the congressman.  

Ninety percent of customer service surveys collected this past summer at Georgia Perimeter indicate that students had an “excellent” experience with staff. One student’s comments on the help he/she received from a staff member: “She had helped me through a very challenging time. She listened to me and gave me the best advice on how to handle my issues. Because of her help, my transition into a new phase of my life feels easier, and I can handle the challenges better. Thank you for all your help.”
