“Awesome,” “wonderful,” “passionate about the subject,” “really cares about students.”
Such were the accolades students heaped on Georgia Perimeter College professors Marjorie Lewkowicz and Kyle Barbieri, who have been rated two of the top community college professors in the nation by RateMyProfessors.com.
Both professors ranked in the top 25 and both teach at Dunwoody Campus. Lewkowicz, who teaches math, ranked fifth. Barbieri, who teaches political science, is ranked 16th.
Students rave about the professors.
One student called Lewkowicz “awesome, bubbly and energetic,” adding that she was “very clear in her lectures and didn’t rely heavily on any one educational tool.”
“She makes sure you understand everything … before moving on to the next subject,” wrote another student.
In a ranking of Barbieri, one student wrote that he is “passionate about the subject and is very clear in his teaching style.” Other students’ comments: “He makes you understand the material” and “He really cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed.”
RateMyProfessors.com is a review site, which allows college, university students and others to anonymously assign ratings to professors of American, Canadian, and British institutions. The site was originally launched as TeacherRatings.com in 1999 and converted to RateMyProfessors in 2001. It is the largest online destination for college professor ratings by students.
Raters rank the course and/or professor on a 1-5 scale in several categories, including “helpfulness,” “clarity” and the degree of “textbook use” in the course. The rater also may include comments of up to 350 characters in length.
