The Georgia Perimeter College Foundation welcomes five new members to its Board of Trustees.
“All five new members are wonderful additions to the Board of Trustees,” says Rob Watts, interim president of Georgia Perimeter College. “They have a deep commitment to the access mission of GPC and understand the significant role we play in higher education in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The college will benefit from their service and their willingness to share their experience and expertise with our students.”
The newest members bring a wide range of expertise to the board, including experience in law and medicine.
Roshal Erskine, in-house counsel for regulatory compliance at DeKalb Medical Center, provides advice and counsel on health care compliance, fraud and abuse matters and other compliance-related investigations. Additionally, Erskine provides counsel to hospital departments and advises and represents the hospital at medical staff hearings related to credentialing and peer review.
Prior to joining DeKalb Medical, Erskine was an associate in the Litigation Practice Group at Sutherland, Asbill and Brennan LLP, where she practiced general commercial litigation and financial services litigation. She earned her law degree from Emory University Law School and her bachelor’s degree from Lawrence University.
Kelly Michael Hundley, a 1987 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, has devoted the bulk of his practice to advising and representing public and private employers across the wide-ranging spectrum of labor and employment issues. Hundley, a partner at Henderson & Hundley P.C., practices labor and employment law.
Outside the office, Hundley enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends. He is a current board member for the Rotary Club of Dunwoody, where he is a past chairman of its Governor’s Ball charity fundraiser. He also regularly visits fourth-graders as a part of the club’s Character Education program.
Karla Moody is a retired nurse and GPC alumna. Moody was a young mom with two children when she began nursing school in 1988 at DeKalb College, now Georgia Perimeter College. At the same time, her husband was starting his own construction business.
Moody graduated as a registered nurse from GPC in 1990 and focused on hospice care. She enjoyed a successful career before retiring in 2011.
Now, Moody administers two Karla Lynn Moody Scholarships in Nursing, one for a first-year and one for a second-year student. The scholarships provide a $500 annual stipend to a full-time, African-American or Native-American student—age 30 or older—in the nursing program.
Tori Silas is counsel for New Media and Transactions at Cox Enterprises, specializing in technology/IP transactions, outsourcing, technology licensing, commercial contracts and corporate reorganizations. She previously worked with Harland Clarke as legal counsel for four business units, which, in the aggregate, generated annual revenue in excess of $500 million. Her responsibilities include structuring, negotiating and managing a wide variety of commercial agreements to meet business and legal requirements, including sales, partnership, reseller and merger and acquisition agreements.
Silas also worked at Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan LLP and Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP. She received a bachelor of science from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a law degree from the University of Miami School of Law.
Silas is a member of multiple organizations, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, The National Bar Association and the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys.
Dr. April Speed, a physician with DeKalb Medical at Hillandale, is a highly sought-after speaker, lecturer and consultant on breast cancer and breast health. After graduating from Morehouse School of Medicine, Speed trained at M.D. Anderson in Houston, the premier cancer treatment center in the country. She was recruited to DeKalb Medical in 2009.
In 2010, Speed was named a recipient of the American Society of Clinical Oncology® Diversity in Oncology Initiative award, funded by Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Speed is one of only three oncologists in the United States to receive the Loan Repayment Program award in 2010.
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve as a new board member of GPC,” Speed said. “The institution is an outstanding example of higher education at its finest; it’s affordable, accessible and fully committed to the academic, professional and personal successes of all the students it serves.”
“We are delighted to welcome this talented group to join a board that is committed to supporting the college’s mission to transform the lives of our students,” says Vicki Carew, executive director of the GPC Foundation. “We look forward to integrating the new members’ ideas and suggestions on making Georgia Perimeter an even better institution.”
