For more than three decades Dr. Marvin Cole has regaled audiences with Mark Twain’s tales. Recently, the former president of DeKalb College, Georgia Perimeter College’s predecessor, brought his impersonation back to his college home.
Cole was the featured in “An Afternoon with Mark Twain,” a fundraiser to help endow the GPC/DeKalb College Retiree Association Scholarship. The event raised $2,000.
Cole’s role as Twain began with a rereading of the classic “Huckleberry Finn” more than 30 years ago.
“The English faculty on the South (now Decatur) Campus asked me to sit in on a discussion of Huckleberry Finn,” Cole says. “… And then someone said, ‘well, you kind of look like Mark Twain, so why don’t you do something for the arts festival?”’
The rest was history, Cole says.
