During the 2010-2011 academic year, 41 student athletes from Georgia Perimeter College received scholarships to take their talents to four-year institutions.

Such signings are a tradition at GPC, where Jaguars who have moved on to play at major NCAA Division 1 schools include tennis star Mario Toledo (University of Tennessee) and basketball guards Roderick Trice (University of South Carolina) and Earl Calloway (Indiana University). And the numbers have risen as GPC coaches have upgraded their athletic programs.

GPC basketball player Musa Abdul-Aleem has signed to play next year on a full ride with University of South Florida. Abdul-Aleem, who sports a 3.4 grade point average, was Freshman of the Year last season in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.

“He’s the model student athlete,” says coach Alfred Barney. “He goes to class, gets the work done and works extremely hard on the court. He’s well-mannered and polite. And all that goes for his twin brother, Muhammad. They’re identical.”

Other recent signees include Nicole Wells and Jasmine Jones (basketball at Wichita State University), former GPC women’s career scoring champ Taiwo Adeshigbin (soccer at University of Missouri) and All-American Salif Kante (tennis at Florida A&M).
