Spencer Kelly: computer science entrepreneur in the making
Name: Spencer Kelly
Age: 20
Education: I attend Georgia Perimeter College’s Newton Campus, where I am a computer science major.
Expected Georgia Perimeter College graduation date: Fall 2015
Job: I am an employee of Acuity Brands Lighting in Conyers. I work to maintain the IT infrastructure by building and deploying new employees’ computers.
What I love about GPC: The simple fact that GPC provides affordable, quality education for those in the surrounding communities.
Reason for choosing GPC: GPC made it possible for me to work toward a degree in my field while obtaining professional experience at the same time.
Career aspirations: After GPC, I plan to transfer to Georgia Tech to obtain a bachelor’s degree in computer science and then a master’s in information security. I will use my education to build a network consulting company that specializes in network security.
Favorite book: “Heart of Darkness“ by Joseph Conrad
Favorite movie: “Pulp Fiction”
The most important lesson I’ve learned: Attention to detail is a skill that pertains to all of life, education or work. The details are what make the difference between failing and succeeding.
Hobby: I love acting and have had leading roles in school and community plays. While being a full-time student and part-time employee at Acuity, I have continued acting, having been an extra in “Vampire Diaries” and a short film called “Archangel: From the Winter’s End Chronicles.”
Leisure activities: I socialize with friends, go to concerts and spend time with my family.
Most influential person in my life: Definitely my parents; they have always pushed me to be the best person I can. They are also supportive in all things that I do and all my dreams.
Something most people don’t know about me: I have done ministry work in New Orleans twice now, rebuilding homes that still show the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. I plan to return this summer to once again help repair the damage of 2005.
