July Carrillo: loves working with students
Name: July P. Carrillo (pronounced “Julie”)
Job: Coordinator of Student Life programs for Clarkston Campus.
Favorite thing about working at GPC: The diversity on the campus! I thoroughly enjoy working with students of different life backgrounds, languages and cultures because within the mix we are able to see how more alike we are than different.
Education: B.A. in Foreign Languages with a concentration in Spanish and a minor in Psychology. Also, a master’s in Education in Professional Counseling with concentration in College Student Affairs.
Hometown/current residence: Born in Bogota, Colombia, and currently reside in Marietta.
Favorite books: “The Incredible and Sad Tale of Innocent Eréndira and Her Heartless Grandmother” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and “The Lovely Bones” by Alice Sebold.
Favorite movies: Anything with Kevin Hart. I find it difficult to pinpoint a favorite! “The Lone Survivor” is a movie that I will never forget and therefore worthy of mentioning here. Also, “Divergent”—I'm a new fan and cannot wait for new movies—and “Pitch Perfect”—I could almost quote the entire movie but can't sing to save my life!
Professional goals: I strive to keep my career in higher education, specifically in college student affairs. Being an active and involved college student combined with my education has helped me to understand my passion for people and growth.
Most influential person in my life: While I have many influential people in my life, my Pops is the most influential. He raised me on his own and even though he passed away in 2009, he continues to teach and influence me.
Leisure activities: Working out is necessary! My reasons behind working out are to maintain a balanced lifestyle. I also love movies and music, I enjoy eateries. I enjoy doing all of these things with my fiancé, too.
Something most people don’t know about me: … is because they just have not asked. :)
