GPC announces increase in dual enrollment students

The number of high school students taking advantage of dual enrollment at Georgia Perimeter College is continuing to increase. According to information from GPC Dual Enrollment officer Jeff Meadors, the total number of dual enrollment students at Georgia Perimeter College has increased from 1,031 in the fall to 1,045 this semester. …
GPC has campuses in Newton County, Alpharetta, Clarkston, Decatur and Dunwoody, as well as online. The college also has several other centers and sites around metro Atlanta. There 272 dual enrollment students at the Newton Campus.

Meadors, who is also a Newton County Board of Education member, said that dual enrollment students differ from Advanced Placement students in that DE students take courses that focus on preparing for college, while AP students take courses specifically geared toward passing AP exams.
Dual enrollment students have a 97.5 percent pass rate on average each semester, and the Georgia AP pass rate hovers around 52 percent, Meadors said. He said most DE students earn grades of A and B, even though earning a C is required to pass the college-level courses.
