The Georgia Perimeter College women’s soccer team finished the 2014 season with a 6-6-1 record, 5-6-1 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.

The team didn’t play in the postseason, a rarity as the program hasn’t missed the GCAA Championship Tournament since 2008, when head coach Bruno Kalonji took over the program shortly before the season, with no time to recruit players.

Since then, the Jaguars and Darton State College have dominated the GCAA (also known as Region 17 of the National Junior College Athletic Association), meeting in the championship match for four consecutive years. Darton won three titles; GPC, one.

While the Jaguars compiled a phenomenal four-year streak of 59 consecutive GCAA matches without a loss, the two teams tied each other four times. Both programs have made impressive runs in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament, as well, with GPC finishing third in 2010 and Darton State winning a runner-up trophy in 2012.

GPC and Darton owned the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.

However, this fall, the Jaguars slipped to fourth place in the GCAA standings and Darton State won the tournament for the fourth straight year, representing the conference at the national tournament in Melbourne, Fla.

Sophomore forward Salako Bolanle was the Jaguars’ leading point producers, ranking fifth among top scorers in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association, with 28 points on 12 goals and four assists.

At midseason, GPC’s Aubry Bush, a freshman from Virginia Beach, Va., led the GCAA in goals-against with a 0.90 average, allowing only four goals. But the defense faltered in October, and she finished the season with 14 goals allowed.

Going into the season, Kalonji faced the challenge of fortifying the back line after two-time All-American Alex Truitt graduated in May. GPC’s entire defensive line had made the All-GCAA team for three consecutive years.
