The Georgia Perimeter College Alumni Association and Georgia United Credit Union are working to improve financial literacy among faculty, staff, students and alumni by sponsoring a series of money management discussions.

The Alumni Enrichment Series is an 11-part sequence of discussions on topics such as the basics of money management, debt, credit and how to manage student loans. Along with learning information and skills to help manage daily money decisions, participants at every session who have pre-registered  also have the chance to walk away with a $200 Visa gift card.

Upcoming sessions in the series include:

June 25 — “Managing College Debt” Clarkston Campus

Sept. 3 — “Understanding Credit,” Decatur Campus

Oct. 1 — “Basics of Money Management,” Dunwoody Campus

Nov. 5 — “Managing College Debt,” Newton Campus

All sessions begin at noon.

Georgia United Credit Union representative and presenter Rachel Sands says the sessions can do much more than just deliver information to participants.

“I hope that they learn how to make better decisions financially and therefore feel more empowered,” she says. “Sometimes when you think about math or numbers, it tends to make people break out into a cold sweat or start to feel uncomfortable because they don’t have a good grasp of it. But through this series, I hope they have a better understanding, they can be more confident and they can make wiser decisions. ”

To be entered to win the gift card drawing, participants must pre-register. Boxed lunches are available for $5 for those who pre-register. To pre-register go to the events calendar and click on the individual session you want to attend.
