Case and Maycock

GPC softball stars Samantha Maycock and Madison Case were named to the 2013 Softball Academic All-America Team by the National Junior College Athletic Association. GPC’s softball program traditionally produces good students as well as top athletes, but the 2013 Jaguars raised the academic bar, with the team posting a 3.41 grade point average. Case and Maycock graduated in May with 3.90 and 3.75 GPAs, respectively. Eleven other players posted GPA averages over 3.0 for the 2012-13 academic year. “Words cannot express how proud I am of this year’s team,” said head coach Ken Deyton. Read more.The Oakland Athletics drafted GPC baseball pitching ace Sam Bragg in the 18th round of the June MLB draft. Bragg was the 551st selection overall. There were 1,216 players drafted in 40 rounds. Also taken in the draft were two former Jaguars, Alan Busenitz and Christopher Madera. The Los Angeles Angels selected Busenitz, a GPC pitcher in 2009 and 2010, and the Chicago Cubs tapped Madera, who played center field in 2012.
