GPC alumna Esther Anyanwu, a two-time soccer All-American for the 2010 and 2011 Jaguars, was named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-America team, as was her former GPC teammate Linda Chukwuji (also twice named All America while with the Jaguars). Playing for Brenau University, the duo led the Golden Tigers to a 13-5 record. Anyanwu led the conference with 27 goals and eight assists and was named Newcomer of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year. Both were named to the all-conference team.  … The men’s and women’s tennis teams began the season ranked nationally, and both defeated perennial conference power Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 5-4 in a three-way meet at the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick. It was the first time the women defeated ABAC in a decade. The men’s top-flight player, freshman Jerel Pleasant, was ranked second in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings. “He’s got a big game. He’s hungry, very athletic and very competitive,” said head coach Mohamed Nait Omar.  … Softball pitcher Lyndsey Parden tossed a no-hitter early in this spring’s schedule, striking out 15 while beating Calhoun Community College 4-0 at the Wallace State JUCO Invitational in Cullman, Ala. Parden, a freshman, had a perfect game going into the seventh (final) inning. Coach Ken Deyton is in his first season at the softball helm. … The 2012 baseball program began with a bang as the Jaguars won their first six games. Though a tough schedule dropped them to 10-10 at the end of February, head coach Brett Campbell considers this edition of the Jaguars to be a major contender in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. … To follow the Jaguars, visit www.gpc.edu/athletic.
