Softball freshman Rachel Martinez played in last fall’s Pan American Games for the Puerto Rico national team. This spring’s starting center fielder and lead-off hitter for the Jaguars, Martinez hit three singles and a double in 15 trips to the plate at the games in Mexico.

 

 

 

Ed Schutte, who helped usher GPC softball into the fastpitch era and built the program to prominence, announced the 2012 season will be his last as head coach of the Jaguars. His teams went to nationals twice.

 

 

 

The men’s basketball team finished 25-5, 14-4 in the region. James Elliot was named region Player of the Year, and Alfred Barney was Coach of the Year.

 

 

 

The women’s basketball team won region and district, ending at nationals with a 23-11 record. Brittany Logan was averaging 13 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

 

 

 

Freshman tennis player Idia Amen took second place in her women’s tennis flight at the Duckworth Fall Tennis Classic at Clemson University. In the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Men’s Championships in Mobile, Ala., freshman Menford Owusu won third place and All-American teammate Ismail Lemtouni finished fourth.
